The Reason
The reason why you have a quality loss when going from s-vid to composite is because s-vid separates the color and brightness channels allowing for a clearing sharper looking image in other words, you would see the very same quality loss if you were to change the connection feed from s-vid to composite if your device has both connections, you would see the same loss

Works surprisingly well in both directions
When converting a composite signal to s-video, I notice no loss of picture quality compared to a direct composite connection. When converting from s-video to composite, the picture is slightly less sharp, but it was almost as good. Color reproduction is perfect in either direction. Radio Shack sells these for $22, so these are a steal. If you have some nice AV equipment, these are too handy to pass up!

Works good. I use it with my graphics card to have video on my TV. Not always a clear picture.
