It works well: better than the "S" office supply store's version.
I write a lot of programs that access the original serial port I/O addresses. This adapter and its included driver supports reading and writing those I/O ports, even from Windows XP. I tried a competitor's brand (that sells for about $40), and it did not function as expected. I'm very satisfied that this cable operates as expected. It includes the drivers for all the operating systems on a mini CD disc, which is a benefit to those of us not yet on broadband internet.

Comparison to other like Devices
I cannot attest to the use of this device; you either need it or not. What I can do is compare it to several other like devices I know about, so you can make your own value-for- money judgement. 3 like devices I found cost retail:$22.99, $24.99,and $59.99, an average of 35.99. A/E's CB-294 is less than half of the average ret. price I found for similar devices. for that reason, I purchased one, though I have not yet used it because I need another interface program to do so. Obviously, I am pleased with the purchase on the basis of price alone
