5.25" 70W SHIELDED WOOFER, 8 OHM

Used two and two of the little 1" tweeters to build a "center channel" speaker for my cousin's new 7.2 "home theater" A/V receiver. Used 4uf non-polarized caps as "cross-overs". After about 20 hours of use his fancy-smancy receiver's microphone shows a frequency response of 48-20,000Hz +/- 1.5dB with a cross-over frequency of 12Khz. It's a good sized enclosure, about 2.5 feet wide, a foot deep and 7" tall, with a 2" PVC pipe for a port, lined with egg-crate foam ($ store mattress topper). Sounds great with his 15" Pioneer front speakers, his Yamaha 10" rears and his 18" 200 watt powered sub (garage sale steal). His receiver automatically balances the speaker's volumes.

I bought this speaker to replace for one Klipsch SB2 which was damaged by shipping. It was a shock
because the sound is too much better than the original one and i am going to order one more.

I have rebuilt my home theater with these speakers and a pair of tweeters from Maddison, completed by a 100W powered subwoofer box. I just received and plugged them in place, wow, they sound real good !
WinISD indicates that a 50 liter volume would be fine for tuned or sealed, but they sound great when placed in a sealed enclosure about 15 liters only, with a lower frequency about 80 Hz. I would not recommend a ported enclosure, they will probably sound boomy. My enclosures are part of a "false" beam made with 3/4" pine planks which avoids showing these big "boom boxes" on the walls. I have not completed the subwoofer yet, but the two sealed boxes in the beam do the job by themselves !

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of these speakers. They sound great and really pack a punch for the size. They work best with an enclosure that seems way too big for them.

I'd been pondering about this woofer for a while, I'd already figured that the bigger speakers had the lower response (low bass), but I wanted something smaller and decided to go for this one. When they arrived, I tested them and they sounded about like a midrange at first! (at low volume) But I knew they were in brand new condition and that the spider cone was stiff due to the fresh factory press. So I did a little modest "rough-handling" with the cone, literally pushing the cone up & down somewhat to loosen the spider cone so that the speaker would be looser, when I got them to move freely with little resistance I stopped. Now the speaker sounds like subwoofer status! Probably producing much lower that the spec. of 62Hz. Deeper bass was what I was after and now I love it!
