Model Railroad HO Scale Locomotive Headlight
This LED has made an excellent replacement for the factory installed lamp in HO Scale Locomotives. To keep it from illuminating the entire nose of the locomotive, a 3/4" long metal sleeve is "superglued" into the loco's shell, then the LED slid into that tube without glueing. With Digital Command Control (DCC), use the white wire for headlight, yellow wire for taillight and blue wire as the common. Put one resistor per LED, resisting temptation to use just a single resistor on the blue wire. Resistor value depends on your decoder, somewhere from 1.2K down to 47 ohms. For non-DCC they work great also. Have fun.

Yes, these are bright as hell.
I purchased one about 2 years ago with a bunch of other LEDs for hobbyist purposes. Every now and then I build a circuit with a breadboard or BASIC Stamp homework board, and if the project calls for a status light, I pop this in there. It's hard to look straight into the light because it's nearly blinding.
