VOX MODULE MAXON

The vox specimen I purchased had a battery in it that was dead as a doornail in december. The battery is not a common type with easy replacement. It appears to be a 1/2 AAA cell with solder tabs. For those who are handy with a soldering iron and have a source for a new battery, this is a huge bargain with minimal work. In many cases I suppose the original battery might take a charge-up and work O.K., but be cautious about any certainty in this respect.

Charge the internal Ni-Cd first - you will need a 7.5 to 12 volt charger (100 ma min.) to a 2.5 mm mono plug, tip positive. Slide out the spring belt clip and run the delay and sensitivity controls back and forth to clear any corrosion. With a standard computer type headset, use a 3.5 mm sterreo to mono adapter for the speakers, and a 3.5 to 2.5 mm adapter for the microphone (I used mono, but stereo should also work). Adjust sensitivity and delay to suit your conditions. I use it for handsfree operation of ham HT in car or on bike.
