These are CD4015BC dual 4-Bit static shift registers, not to be confused with a single 8 bit shift register such as the 74HC595. That being said, these may easily be wired up to allow for full 8 bit operation. Keep in mind, if using these registers in a paired mode (as serial in 8 bit out), you will need to wire 4Qa to the B stage input and then short the clock lines. Also, keep in mind that due to the latchless operation of this register, you will need to send a reset signal (clock signal not required) to clear the register all lines between serial sends. Not doing so results in some very strange activity after the first few cycles.
All in all, these seem to be great registers so far and work very well.
