These work great for what they are intended, using AA alkaline batteries, but they are not unbreakable. I tried using these with AA size Li-Ion rechargeable batteries (14500) and as I snapped the battery in, I snapped the holder in two - the top (positive) side breaking off. I thought it might be a fluke and tried another holder with the same results. That's when I noticed the Li-Ion 14500 were taller than alkaline AA batteries. I was able to put a 14500 in one of these holders, however the top is bent out of shape and the contact is not the greatest, sometimes intermittent. These holders work well with alkalines and the small wire gauge makes soldering a breeze.
***On an odd side note, using the "HOLDER FOR 2 AA CELLS, W/ SNAPS" from All Electronics, Cat # BH-321, the 14500s fit perfectly with no deformation of the holder and good contacts.***

I love to build kits and projects. Especially, test equipment... I am building myself, a hand held signal injector, as a project from "Build Your Own Test Equipment" (TAB books) from 1991. It is based on a LM3909 chip, and it calls for a singe AA battery holder.
I got this battery holder and am half way thru building it.. I can't wait til I finish it! KD5BIH
