My microcontroller PCB came with bare holes. I used a coping saw to split this 24 by 2 into three 8 by 2 sockets. The connector also stacks. I.e., I soldered one connector onto my microcontroller PCB, then inserted a second 8 by 2 connector on top. I then used 24-gauge solid wire as jumper wire from the top socket to a solderless breadboard. When a wire breaks off or the socket wears out, I remove the top connector and replace it (no messy unsoldering required).
