Was $1.25 NOW 75¢ each. Zinc-chloride 9V battery, the economical choice for low drain devices like remote controls, clocks, smoke alarms, radios and flashlights.
The price was fantastic, so I figured hope it lasts one hour or so. Boy, was I wrong! You just can not expect better for $1.25. Also, alkaline batteries kinda gives cheesy feeling and a little deformation (only detectable with osc.) when using with high gain opamp based circuits. Hence, carbon zinc is the only reliable option left.

zinc chloride batteries do not last long. do not use in smoke detectors. they also tend to leak more often.
