This is a quick inline switch to add to an 18 gauge "zip cord" . A simple cut to one side of the cable and then screw the shell connector together. To be correct you should cut the line side of the cable, which is the short width prong on the plug and is usually the side of the cable with printing on it and opposite the side with ridges on the wire. The switch is good to 3A which will support a 150W lamp/
